Reading task4

Summary: In the book “Children at work” by Anne Kielland and Maurizia Tovo (2006, Lynne Rienner Publishers, Inc) Page 144 to page 162; authors talks the “possible cures” for the child labor (pg 145, 2006). Kielland and Maurizia states three methods which are “development of an understanding” (pg147, 2006), this is talking about that it needs to develop people’s understanding by education and let them know the harmful of the child labor; “legal reforms” (Pg152, 2006), authors points that the legal system should be changed so that the government does not give the chances to people use the child as the workers; the last method is “enforcement and coping” (Pg157, 2006) which is talking about the using the legal power and the international organizations to beat the companies and the organizations which use and deal with the child labor.

Critique
In these 20 pages, authors wants to states their opinion which is that the basic problem of the child labor is the people’s thought, government system and legal system. It can be seen from the methods given by the authors, they list three methods which are focus on developing people’s mind, changing the government so that people cannot avoid the responsibility when they deal with the child labor and how to using the legal power which is the law to solve the problems.
In my opinion, I think that all the authors’ methods are useful to solve the child labor problem, but I think all these methods cannot solve the basic problem. I think the most useful method is that solving the economic problem first, and then all the methods mentioned by the authors can be the second step. I think that even the people and government want to change, but if they cannot live without the working, how they can change their life style.
In addition, the other part of the book, author also use many pages to talk about “economic and child labor” which I think I can use to support my opinion.
